OUR STORY

Hells Canyon Bolo Co. is built on generational knowledge and hands-on craftsmanship. For four generations, our family has rockhounded throughout the American West, learning how to recognize quality stone, read natural patterns, and work with materials honestly and carefully.

Much of what we know came from our grandparents, who taught us how to rockhound and passed down not only skills, but stones themselves. Many of the gems we use today come from family collections—including her rock pile—gathered over decades and preserved with intention.

We don’t chase trends or shortcuts. Every piece we make reflects patience, restraint, and respect for the material. Our work is rooted in place, heritage, and a belief that well-made objects should last.

HOW OUR BOLO TIES ARE MADE

Every Hells Canyon Bolo Co. bolo tie is made start to finish by hand. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is mass-produced.

Stone Selection
All stones are personally selected from family-held collections or from stones we’ve carefully set aside over years of rockhounding. We choose gems based on structure, character, and long-term wearability—not trends or volume.

Cutting & Shaping
Each stone is cut and shaped in-house. We work slowly, allowing the stone’s natural pattern and hardness to guide the final form. No two stones are alike, and no stone is forced into a standard shape.

Setting & Construction
Every setting is built by hand using traditional metalsmithing techniques. Each one is made specifically for its stone to ensure balance, protection, and a secure fit.

Finishing & Assembly
Final polishing, cord fitting, and assembly are completed by hand. Every bolo is inspected for fit, function, and durability before it leaves our bench.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

We operate differently than most modern jewelry brands.

  • Stones passed down through generations of our family
  • No wholesalers, bulk suppliers, or imported stones
  • Every piece made entirely in-house
  • One-of-a-kind designs, never duplicated
  • Traditional techniques focused on longevity

By controlling every step of the process, we maintain a level of quality and authenticity that’s increasingly rare.

Materials & Quality Standards

We choose materials for strength, stability, and long-term wear.

  • Natural gemstones selected for durability and structure
  • Stones suitable for regular wear when treated with care
  • Hand-built settings designed to protect and support each stone
  • Components chosen for balance, comfort, and repairability

Our bolos are made to be worn often and maintained over time.

OUR STONES

Knowing where a stone comes from matters.

Many of the stones we work with have been in our family for decades, passed down from one generation to the next. Others were personally collected and saved over time as part of our family’s long-standing rockhounding tradition, local rockhounds, and our own rockhounding adventures. Because of this, we know the history and character of every stone we use.

Our approach is careful and selective, guided by respect for the land and the materials it provides.

BUILT TO BE WORN & PASSED DOWN

Our bolo ties are designed for real wear. Each piece is constructed to sit properly, hold securely, and age well with time.

They’re durable and meant to be worn beyond special occasions—pieces that become part of your everyday rotation rather than something kept away. Made to be maintained, not replaced, our bolos are built for the long haul.

Who Our Bolos Ties Are For

Hells Canyon Bolo Co. pieces are made for people who value craftsmanship, heritage, and materials with a real story behind them.

Our bolos are well-suited for those who appreciate Western tradition, thoughtful design, and objects made by hand rather than by machine. They’re meant to be worn with intention—whether daily or on meaningful occasions—and kept for the long haul.
